Summary
Performs collection activities on delinquent federal and private student loans to ensure compliance with corporate and federal due diligence requirements. Obtain financial information to negotiate repayment arrangements to cure and/or resolve delinquency level of student loan accounts.
Job Duties
  • Contacts delinquent or defaulted borrowers by telephone and/or automated dialing system, and written correspondence; negotiate terms for repayment of debts within the limits of the law, regulations, policies, and procedures governing the collection of delinquent or defaulted accounts.
  • Contacts listed references by telephone in an attempt to obtain location information of the student borrower.
  • Documents in the borrower's record, all contacts with the borrower and attempted contacts.
  • Counsels borrowers on deferment/forbearance eligibility or other payment options.
  • Employs excellent listening skills, applies program knowledge and utilizes available research resources in order to understand and assess student borrower situations as well as to identify potential avenues for resolution.
  • Uses available skip resources to locate borrowers.
  • Using persuasive speaking techniques, superb customer service skills, and call control techniques, counsels student borrowers on methods to avoid default and successfully resolve delinquency.
  • Researches account history and imaged documents to locate new information.
  • Researches accounts for errors and processes requests for account adjustments.
  • Demonstrates excellent telephone communication skills.
  • Consistently meets Corporate and Department goals and deadlines.
  • Adhere to Corporate Policies with regards to the Fair Debt Collection Procedures Act.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Twelve months of call center experience in debt collections, sales, or student loan servicing.
  • Must successfully complete and pass the FDCPA test.
  • Strong oral/ written and inter-personal skills.
  • Working knowledge of student loans preferred.
