Step One: Apply for financial aid
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the form used to
apply for all federal and many state financial aid programs.
- Online is the quickest and easiest way. You
will need to apply for a Personal Identification Number
(PIN) in order to sign electronically.
If you do not have a PIN, you can still fill it out online and then print, sign
and mail the signature page.
- You may request a paper application from the U.S. Department of Education by calling 1-800-4-FEDAID.
If you apply for state and federal aid between January and April, you should be
notified of any awards by late spring or early summer.
Step Two: Sign Your Master Promissory Note (MPN)
Once you have received your award letter, you will need to sign your MPN. Use your PIN to
sign the form electronically.
Remember to specify The Student Loan PeopleSM, lender number 826688, on your MPN.
